Bagha Jatin


One of the freedom fighter named Bagha Jatin Mukherjee was a brave man just like tiger in freedom records. He was called Bagha Jatin. His real name Jatindranath Mukherjee. He was born in the village of Kushita of Nadia District located at Bangladesh. He was born to Sharatshasi and Umeshchandra Mukherjee on 7th December 1879. His brother Basant Kumar Chattopathya also a revolutionary and politician. He liked the famous leaders Bankimchandra Chatterjee and Yogendra Vidhyabushan. Also he liked the another famous poet Rabindranath Tagore. He had great interest in religious plays and meetings. In 1895 he passed his school study at Ango Vernacular School. Then he joined Calcutta Central College for the study of Fine Arts. During his college study he met Swami Vivekananda a great leader of social thought and spiritual progress of humanity. Swami Vivekananda had a great influence about Bagha Jatin. Also he met another leader and Swami's Irish disciple Sister Nivedita. During his young age he had great eager for climbing, swimming and shooting. 


Bagha Jatin had strong sense of self respect and national pride in his activities. Also in contact with Aurobindo Ghosh. Jatin had great impress of Swami Vivekananda and met in the event of Gymnasium of Ambu Guha and practiced there. At that time he was also impressed the Congress activities against British Government. He married Indubala Banerjee in the year 1900. They had four children named Atindra, Ashalata, Jeiendra and Birendra. In 1908 he was implicated in the Alipore Conspirace Case with some revolutionaries. He was the leader of Jugantar Party. Jugantar or Yugantar was was one of the two main revolutionary trends operating in Bengal for Indian Independence. Several Jugantar members were arrested or hanged or transported to Cellular Jail during that time. In 1908 he started the branch of Anushilan Samiti called Bandabh Samiti in April at Siliguri. Anushilan Samiti was an Indian Organisation that supported Indian Revolutionary. In that year he also accused as Alipore Bomb Case. It is the criminal case held in India by Aurobindo Ghosh and others. 

After the Alipore Bomb Case he became confidence in struggle movements. To assassinate the Lt. Governor of Bengal on 7 November 1908 and Deputy Superintendent of Police Samsul Alam on 24 January 1910, both these officers had been assassinated by revolutionaries and they were arrested by police. For this event the judgement closed that Jatins name as this gang leader. So Jatin was arrested for this connection but he released. But soon he arrested Howra Subpur Conspiracy Case also known as Howra Gang Case. He was put into Howra Jail. In this Howra Jail he had secret contact with some revolutionaries. With this time Germany declared war against England. Jatin counted hear on this war in his involvement. During the First World War Jatin involved his action for his confident events such as collect funds. Jatin came to be known as German Plot, the Hindu German Conspiracy. The Hindu Conspiracy was a serious of attempts between 1914 and 1917 by Indian Nationalist group to create a Pan Indian Rebellion against the British Government during the World War First. 

Indian Revolutionaries of Europe gathered in Berlin to form the the Indian Independence Party and have German assistance of German Government agreed. In the meantime Jatin was made the Commander in Chief at the entire revolutionary forces. On this event Jatin had close associate with Naren Battacharya future known as M.N.Roy. for his events of struggled events. Government forces moved to arrest the revolutionaries. In this gang Chittapraya Roy, Chaduri and Jatin were seriously wounded. Manoranjan, Sengupta were captured. But Jatin died on 10 September 1915 at the age of 35. He sacrificed his life to the nation. Bullets gave him as patriot. He was the brave and talent in his life during all events. Save our salute to Bagha Jatin a tiger of Bangladesh.
