Veera Pandiya Kattabomman was most popular freedom fighter in our Indian history. All tamil people proud of his courage and sacrifice. He is the inspiration for every Indians. He fought for freedom in our own country against British government. He was born on 3 January 1760. His father was Jaga Veera Kattabomman and his mother Arumugathammal. He was fifth child of his family. He had two brothers as Omaidurai and Durai singam and two sisters as Eshwara vadivu and Durai Kannu. He married Veera Jekkammal. His father 46 th Playakkarar in Panchalankurichy. Kattabomman becamme 47th Palayakkarar in Panchalankurichy kingdom. 
In Panchalankurichi he was as a ruler on February 2-1790 and then he ruled Palayakkarar that kingdom about 9 years 8 months and 14 days. As a ruler of Panchalankurichi he met many risky actions in his ruling time for British Government. At that time British East Indian Company start their ruling in Tirunelveli. Around Tirunelveli all Palayakkaras ruling under Britishers.  British East Indian Company collect tax from all palayakkaras. During that time Jackson Durai was the collector of Tirunelveli. Jackson Durai came to Panchalankirichi also and forced Kattabomman to settle the tax to British Government. Kattabomman had great angry for Jackson Durai and forget his order.      
Kattabomman refused to give them tax. His courage and love for our nation is great. After the death of Tipu Sultan on 1799 the Britishers had great hungry with Kattabomman and had a war with Kattabomman. The British leader Panerman leads the war with Kattabomman on September 1st 1799. But unfortunately the fort was captured by Britishers and they arrested Kattabomman. This is the sad moment for Panchalankurichi. British Government Assassinated Kattabomman under tamarind tree on 19 October 1799 at Kayatharu in Tirunelvely district. Kattabomman never afraid for enemies. 
History of Kattabomman was directed as a film by B.R. Bandhulu on 1959. Sivaji Ganesan acted as Kattabomman in that film. In 1974 Tamilnadu government built a fort on the memory of Kattabomman at Palayamkottai. Indian government gave respect for Kattabomman to issue a postal stamp for his two hundred years anniversary. Also his memorial was at Kayatharu. For appreciate his courage, statue of Kattabomman was at Wellington in Tamilnadu.  INS-KATTABOMMAN was in ship force at Vijayanarana. Also Veera Pandiya Kattabomman cultural committee was worked at Tirunelvely for cultural functions every year for the memory of Veera Pandia Kattabomman. 


In our Inian history everyone proud of his sacrifice. Brave and also courage are in his blood always. In Panchalankurichi the rabbit never afraid of dog. It is true in that soil because that is Kattabommans soil. So braveness is always there. We have a salutation to Kattabomman.
