Annie Besant


Annie Besant was the famous freedom fighter also well known person in Indian history. She visited every places in whole India. She had lot of thought about middle class Indian people and Indians who were effected by Britishers. She had educational thoughts in 1898 at Central Benaras College and gave his support for Indian educational systems. She was fully involved in freedom movement in the year 1916. She was also fully involved Home Rule League which advocated self rule by Indians. Annie Besant became the Leader of Indian National Congress in the year 1917. She was the only candidate of this post first. Also she was the Editor of the Newspaper,'New India' and published against British rule. So that she was jailed by Britishers for this movement. After some years Annie Besant became politics with Mahatma Gandhi against Britishers. Gandhiji and Annie Besant cooperated and visited many places for freedom movement. Gandhiji named as 'Avanti Devi' to Annie Besant. Also she was known as Leader of Home Rule League. She was not only a freedom fighter also she became interested in Theosophy. Theosophy is a way of knowing god. Theosophical Society was against discrimination of race and color. She was the member of theosophical member of India in 1893. 


Life history of Annie Besant-
                                                 Annie Besant was born on 1st October 1847 at Claphan in United Kingdom[London] She was Irish woman. She was the daughter of William Burton Persse Wood and Emily Roche Morris. She was studied Harrow School at London. Her father was Englishman who lived in Dublin her mother was an Irish Catholic. At the age of 20 she had married Clergyman Frank Besant. She had children Arthur and Mobel. She was a good writer as well as she wrote short stories, books for children and write articles. In the year 1873 she returned to London and lived with her daughter. Her husband left with her because of political activities. Then she had lived with the advise of Edward Bouveria Pusey a old man of church. And then she left from London In the year 1880 she was studied at the Birkback Literary and scientific institution for her political and religious activities. Then she had thought about freedom,womens rights birth control and securalism. Afterwards she was the leading member of National Secure Society. National Secure Society was the British compaign organisation that promote securalism. 


Annie Besant became the National reformer of the news paper. National Reformer was the secure weekly publication. For many years she was a friend of National Secular Society. Charles Bradlaugh was the founder of this society in the year 1866. Then Annie Besant lived with him. For her involvement of politics she became elected as a Member of Parliament for Northambton. She also published fruits of philosophy. Annie Besant and Bradlaugh proclaimed the National Reformer. They were arrested. Annie Besant became contacts with Irish Home Rulers. Michael Davitt was a Irish Republican activist who had contact with Annie Besant. In 1895 she was the representative of the Theosophical Society of the world parliament of religious in Chicago. The World Parliament is famous in India because Indian Monk Swamy Vivekanada addressed in the same event and which has received global recognisation. Then she had became involved political activities. She had close relationship with George Bernad Shaw an young Irish Author. 


Annie Besant was the Leader of Home Rule League. She was a Irish but she became Indian. Mostly she was lived in Madras. So she was a Tamil Leader. All of us proud of this foreign but Indian Leader. Her son Jittu Krishnamurthy was later the leader of Theosophical Society of India. Annie Besant named her son Jittu Krishnamurthy because of his great desire of Tamil people. So all of us gave respect the great Indian leader Annie Besant.
