GOPAL KRISHNA GOKHALE


Gopal Krishna Gokhale was an Indian political leader during Indian Independent movement. He was born on 9 May 1866 in Kothuluk at Rathnagiri district Maharashtra. His parents were Krishna Rao Gokhale and Valubai. He was studied in Rajaram High School at Kothapur. Then he was studied in Elphinsten College Bombay. He finished his degree education in 1884. Then he joined the Professor of History at Fergussan College Poona. Mahadev Govind Ranade was his mentor and joined with him for Poona Sarvajanik Sabha. Ranade as a guru of Gokhale. Then Gopal Krishna Gokhale married Savithri bai in 1880. He became the member of Indian National Congress in the year 1889. He was working with eager in Congress Party and elected as president of Benaras session of the Congress. In 1901 he was a member of Bombay Legislative Council and he spoke against the government. He was fully involved in politics and nations welfare. He was sent by Indian National Congress on a special mission to England to explain India's constitutional demands among the British leaders. This was an important political event of history event.


Gandhi and Gokhale
Gopal Krishna Gokhale was involved in Indian National Congress and also discussed the leaders Bal Gangathar Tilak, Lala Lajpat Rai, and Anni Besant at that time. In this situation Gokhale and Tilakar were opposite sides because of their traditions. Gokhale desired independence through constitutional agitations while Tilak believed in a more aggressive approach. Gokhale became President of Indian National Congress in the year 1906. The moderate faction was led Gokhale while Tilak led the aggressive nationalist political activities. Gokhale met Mahatma Gandhi in the year 1896 and discussed about nations events. They met 1901 in Calcutta and another discussion about political situation .He helped  Gandhi to structure the Natal indectured Labour Bill in 1910. During his visit at South Africa in 1912 Gokhale met Gandhi and also meetings with African leaders. Mahatma Gandhi looked up to Gokhale as his mentor and also guide in politics. His point of view he was confident of spirituality and religiosity and nationalism. He became an inspiration to many leaders including Mahatma Gandhi.

Gokhale also exerted his influence on Muhammad Ali Jinna. He had became Muslim Gokhale and considered the Ambassadar of Hindu Muslim Unity against the British Raj. He was the Member of Bombay Leslative Assembly in 1899. He was elected to the Imperial Court of the Governor General of India on 20 December 1901. Then on the date of 22 May 1903 as non-officiating member representing Bombay Province. Also he was mentor of Gandhi. Gandhi wrote his biography, Gokhale as his master politician. He described him as,'Pure as crystal, Gentle as lamb, Brave as a lion and chivalrous to a fault and the perfect man in the political field' Gokhale also worked Hitavid Weekly News Paper during his life. He was died in 19 February 1915. One of the greatest Indian leader during British Government.
