BINA DAS


Early life of Bina Das-                                                                                                                                     
Bina Das was one of the lady revolutionary in Independence movement of Indian history. She was born on 24 August 1911 in West Bengal. She was the daughter of Beni Madhab Das and Sarala Devi. Her sister Kalyani Das was also a freedom fighter. She was studied in St.Johns Girls Higher Secondary School. After her school life she was studied in Bethune College Calcutta. Her father was also a teacher of Reven Shaw College. Subash Chandra Bose was the student of Beni Madhab Das. She has keen interest in freedom movement at that time. In the year 1928 she met Subash Chandra Bose and joined the Bengal Volanteer Corps. Also she joined Bengal Revolutionary Party with her friend Subash Ganguly. Bina das also had group with Anuja Charan Sen, Dinesh Chandra Mazumdar and many more friends with secret contacts about revolution movement. These group made failed at their first attempt of Calcutta Police Commisioner Charles Tegrat for attack. The revolutionaries were captured. They were arrested. Also other incident Bina Das failed an attack. But she was confident. 


Revolutionary moment of Bina das-                                                                                                          Bina Das decided to attack the Governor of Bengal. She approached Kamaladas Gupta of the Juganter Party to get her a gun. So Gupta purchased a gun from other revolutionary Sudhir Ghosh an old fashion Belgian for the sum of Rs 280. She had great experience using fire guns. Once she had fired a rifle and the recoil had knocked her off feet. At that revolver she practiced many times. On 6th February 1932 was the important day of Bina Das. At that day Bengal Governor Stanley Jackson delivering a speech in Convacation Hall at Calcutta University. In that hall Bina Das had a loaded gun with her dress. Suddenly she rose from her seat and rushed towards and opened fire. Bina's first shot towards Jackson's ear and then quick on his feet immediately ducked. Also Vice Chancellor of Calcutta University Hassan Sakravardy attacked by Bina by throat. Also she managed to discharge all the remaining bullets. After this incident Bina Das was arrested and also her room searched by police they were revealed more bullets from her hostel room. She was sentenced to nine years in jail. 


Confident and Courage of Young lady-
At that time Bina Das was 21 years old. An young lady made a historical event to the own nation for its freedom. Bina produced to court by police. In court she accepted the incidents and also said towards judge,'As a man he is just as good to me as my father and lady Jackson just as good as my mother, but the Governor of Bengal represents a system which has kept enslaved three hundred millions of my countrymen and women ,'she added. Then she was sent to Midnapore prison. After she was released for her demands. Then she joined Congress Party. In 1941 she was the leader of South Calcutta Party. In 1942 Bina Das joined Quit India Movement. From 1946 to 1951 she served as Bengal State Legislature. In 1947 she married fellow freedom fighter Jatish Bhowmick. After the Independence she became teaching in school. On 26th December 1986 Bina Das died. She was one of the brave and talent freedom fighter in our records.
