DURGAWATI DEVI
India's freedom was a mass movement.
Most of the fighters gave their life and sacrifice for Indian freedom. Men and women had great confident for their activities. From north to south most of the leaders gave their respect for own country. One of that fighter in our history records indicated to our mind was Durgawati Devi. She was also named Durga Bhabi. Indian Revolutionanary Brave Women. She was born in October 1907 at Kaushambi district near Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh. Her husband Shri Bhagwati Charan Vohra. He was Lahore. They had keen interest to Indian freedom movement activities against British rule. Bhagawati Charan Vohra along with Bhagat Singh and others had friendship with Hindustan Republican Association. Durgawati Devi also collect money from her father and send it to this association She purchased arms and ammunition for revolutionaries. She had a group and made activities with that group for revolution. Durgawati Devi with confident to purchase weapons and deliver this weapons and ammunition to revolutionaries. She was a woman so that police did not suspect her activities. During this time at the date of December 1928 Lala Lajpat Rai died. Bhagawati Charan Vohra gone to Calcutta for Congress session. This is the historical movement of revolutionary actions hold. This incident made great response in records.
With the absence of Bhagat Singh, Raj Guru, and Sukhdev shot dead John Sanders in Lahore, Police Officer of Lala Lajpath Rais death. Immediately police hunting Durgawati Devi's place. To escape this place, Bhagat Singh, Durgawati Devi and Rajguru were decided to leave Lahore by catch a train. Then they captured Calcutta Mail. In that mail they had a drama at that mail. In that drama Bhagat Singh dressed as a western style,while Durgawati Devi posed as his wife and her three year old son as a child and Rajguru became their servant. They reached Bhagawati Charan Vohra. He praised and appreciated this activities. After Bhagat Singh was arrested. Put into Lahore jail. Bhagawati Charan Vohra planned his escape and wanted to set up a bomb in Lahore Prison. But unfortunately he died while testing the bomb. But Durgawati Devi did not afraid and bravely continued her fight against Britishers. She was instrumental in organizing rallies and secure the release of Bhagat Singh.
