 PRITILATA WEDDEDAR


In our Indian history mysterious events happened during freedom fighting moments. Bengal revolutionary nationalist Pritilata Weddedar was the exclusive person who sacrificed his life for the nation in records. She was born on 5 May 1911 at Dhalghat village near Chittagong. Her father Jagabandhu was a clerk in Chittagong Municipality. Her mother Pratibhamayi Devi. Pratilita Weddedar had five siblings with her life. Madhusduan. Kanaklata, Shantilata, Ashalata and Santosh were that children. She studied her school life in Chittagong Khastagir Government High School. Kalpana Datta was her classmate. Later Kalpana Datta also a freedom fighter in history records. Then she entered Eden College and she was the first student in her study career. In this college she was headed by Leela Nag. This Leela Nag was a politician, reformer also close associate of Netaji Subash Chandra Bose. Bina Das was also her friend. She was also a revolutionary and nationalist of West Bengal. Then she went to Bethune College Calcutta finished the course of psychology. Then she returned to Chittagong and worked as a head mistress of nearest school. 


She was inspired the courage of Jhansi Rani Laxmibai. Pritilata met revolutionary leader Suya Sen at Dhalghat in the year 1932.Sen and his friends permitted Pritilata to join their group for freedom fighting events. She was more useful in transporting weapons for their group. Pritilata met Ramakrishna Biswas a freedom fighter many times and shared freedom fighting moments with him. Pritilata met several raids and attacks of Britishers during this time. Britishers combined a club named Pahartali European Club. In front of that club the board as ' Dogs and Indians not allowed'. Revolutionaries angry with this board. Surya sen and his group decided to attack British Inspector General of Chittagong Mr. Craig. At first Ramakrishna Biswas and Kalipada Chakravarty were assigned for this task. But they did not do this task correctly. So Biswas and Chakravarty arrested on 2 December 1930. Biswas ordered to be hanged and Chakravarty exiled to cellular jail in Port Blair. So this time Surya Sen decided to attack this club and she appointed Pritilata Weddedar as a leader of this attack. 


On December 23, 1932 Pritilata led the gang and was dressed as a panjabi man. Her associates Kalishankerday, Bireshwar Roy, Prafulla Das, Shanti Chakraborty were in dhoti and shirt, also Mahendra Chowdry, Sushil Dey and Panna sen were lungi. Pritilata start her attack at the time of 10.45. At that time 40 people were inside there. Some of the British officers started shooting back. She was injured by a bullet. But at that moment she swallowed cyanide bill because she thought that she was caught and arrested by Britishers. So she swallowed Cyanide and sacrifice her life for Indians freedom. Mysterious and memorable moments. At that time she was 21 years old. Very brave young woman sacrificed her life for the nation. For the memory of Pritilata, Primary School of Chittagong, Pritilata Weddedar Mahavidyalaya at Panikhali, Pritilata Shaheed Minar, Pritilata Hall at Chittagong University, Pritilata Hall at Jahangir University are the shining events in history records. Gave our respect and salute to that bold woman.

Puli Thevar Puli Thevar was the earlier freedom fighter in our Indian history. He was a tamil palayakkarar who ruled Nerkkattumseval in the Sankarankoil taluk-Tirunelveli. Maruthu Pandiyar

Maruthu Pandiyar Maruthu brothers are earliest freedom fighters against Britishers in our Indian history. Maruthu brothers born in Mukkulam village in Virudhunagar district. Older brother Periya Maruthu born on 15 December 1748 and elder brother Chinna Maruthu born on 1753. The parents of Maruthu brothers are Udhayam Servai and Ponnathal. Maruthu brothers joined as soldiers in the army of Muthuvaduganathar-king of Sivagangai. These two brothers had more skills in army training. After the attack of Ramanathapuram, Arcot Nawab and Britishers were making his attack to Kalayaarkoil. In this attack Muthuvaduganathar killed. Wife of Muthuvaduganathar, Velu Nachiyar and Maruthu Pandiyar escaped from Kalayaarkoil and lived Virupachi near Didigul.  On 1779 Velu Nachiyar and Maruthu brothers defeated Britishers and 1980 Velu Nachiyar became the ruler of Sivagangai. Velu Nachiyar Velu Nachiyar was a queen of Sivaganga estate in South India. She is regarded as the first queen who fought against the British colonial power in India. She was born on 3 January 1730. Her parents Muthathal Nachiyar and Chellamuthu Sethupathy. She took training in handling weapons, in martial arts, horse riding and archery. She had brilliant language skill in English,French,Urdu. At the age of 16 she married Muthuvaduganathur Udaiyathevar. Nachiyar and Muthuvaduganathur Udaiathevar had a daughter named Vellachi. After the British soldiers and son of Nawab of Arcot conquered Sivagangai and killed her husband. She fled with daughter and lived at Virupachi some days.  At Virupachi she had lived under protection of Palayakkarar Kopaala Nayakkar.
