Barindra Kumar Ghosh


Barindra Kumar Ghosh was one of the freedom fighter also a revolutionary of the freedom struggle movements in Indian Independence. He was the younger brother of Aurobindo Ghosh. He was born in Croydon near London in the year 1880 in the month of January. He was as the ancestral village of Konnagar in Hoogly district. His father Krishnathan Ghosh and his mother Swarnalata. In his yearly life Barindra Ghosh studied in a school Deoghar. Then he joined Patna College in the year 1901. He was mostly influenced of revolutionary movements by his brother Arobindo Ghosh. With the help of Jatindranath Banerjee he started revolutionary organization in the year 1902 and then joined Anushilan Samiti of revolution team. He had great association with Bagha Jatin a great revolutionary those days. He started Jugantar a Bengal weekly and became as a founding member as Aurubindo Ghosh. 


The revolutionaries formed a group named Maniklata in Kolkata. Maniklata was a member area of North Kolkata West Bengal. Also Maniklata was very important secret place and gave their support of revolutionary movements. In that place manufacturing bombs and collected arms ammunition. For this situation Barindra Kumar Ghosh gave his support also helped to kill the police officer Kinsford with other revolutionaries such as Kudhiram Bose and Prafulla Chaki. In this action Kudhiram Bose and Prafulla Chaki died for their forced activities. But Barindra Kumar Ghosh sentenced to jail. On 2nd May 1908 Barindra Kumar Ghosh and Aurobindo Ghosh were arrested by police because they were led by the killing activities of Alipore Bomb Case. This case was mostly led by Barindra Kukar Ghosh and he was jailed in Andaman Cellular Jail. This Cellulr Jail was also known as Kala Pani-a colonical prison in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India. The prison was led by British Government for the purpose of political prisoners during that time. 


Barindra Kumar Ghosh and other convicts put in Andaman Cellular Jail in the year 1909. That time was the main active time for revolutionaries. Then he released from jail in the year 1920 and returned to Calcutta and continued Journalism. After some days later he formed an ashram in Calcutta. During that time he published his activities as the title of 'The Tale of My Exile-Twelve years in Andaman' in 1923. Then he left from Calcutta and joined with his brother Aurobindo in Pondichery Ashram. He was most involved spiritual exercise and disciplines. Then he returned Calcutta and continued journalism. 'The dawn of India' was a weekly magazine started by Barindra Kumar Ghosh. Also he was the Editor of Dainik Basumati and the news paper 'The Statesman'.He was freedom fighter also a journalist. He was died on 18 April 1959. Indian freedom struggle movements never forget this courage and confidant freedom fighter. Gave our salute to Barindra Kumar Ghosh.
