One of the freedom fighter also a great poet Subramaniya Bharathi was well known and also a famous journalist during freedom fighting movements of Indian history. He was born on December 11, 1882 in Ettayapurm, Thirunelvely District. His father Chinnachamy Iyer and his mother Lakshmi Ammal. In the age of 5 his mother died. In the age of 11 he had great skill of writing in Tamil poetric songs. For the skill of writing The King of Ettayapuram gave his name as 'Subramanya Bharathy' His original name Subbaiya. When he studied in 9th standard he became great talant in Tamil and also great suggestions with well known Tamil persons. In June 15, 1897 he married Chellammal, when Chellammal in the age of 14. In the age of 16 his father died. During that time he was poor in his life circle. But for his hard work he he became more skills in Tamil. Then he went to Kasi and joined Alahabad University and studied Sanskrit, Hindi, English and Bengal. So Bharathy had known four languages for his talant.
He was fully involved freedom fighting movements in the year 1905 and became struggle events of the nation. Then he had contact with V.O.Chidambarampillai a famous freedom fighter of Tamil Nadu. In that time Indian National Congress meeting held in Clcutta led by Dada Bai Navroji. Bharathi attended this session and gave his support to the movements. During that time Bharathy met Sister Nivedita a sisya of Swami Vivekananda. He was agood journalist. He edited and published Magazines and news papers to the nation. In the year 1904 Swasedamitran and in the year 1907 the weekly magazine 'India' and also 'Bala Barathy' an English magazine. For the participation of a journalist the British Government banned the magazine so Barathi became struggled. He was arrested by the British Government and jaied. About 34 days he was in the prison and released. Then he wrote his articles such as Kannan Pattu, Kuil Pattu and Panjali Sabatham. In the year 1912 he was translated Baghavat Githa in Tamil.
In the year 1918 he returned from Pondichery and became writing many poetric songs about freedom movements. This songs are historical records. Even now this songs memorable and also significant cultural memories. Bharathi came to Chennai in the year 1919. He met Mahatma Gandhi and Rajaji there. That is the historical meet of those great freedom fighters Gandhi, Rajaji and Bharathi. In the year 1921 the month of July he went to Parthasarathy Temple at Thiruvallikkeni an unexpected event happened there. Subramaniya Barathy attacked by the elephant of that temple. He was injured with heavy injuries there. This was his last event of his life. After some days exactly September 11, 1921 he was died in the age of 39. Barathi died but his memorable songs never died. During the freedom struggle movements he had contact of Aurabindo, Lala Lajpat Rai and VVS Iyer and also Bal Ganghadar Tilak, Bipin Chandra Pal. A great leader also poet also journalist Bharathi never forgeted by Indians. Always remember this great poet. Bharathi as a Poet as a Nationalist.
