Begum Zeenat Mahal was the empress who ruled the Moghul Empire on behalf of the emperor Bahadur Shah Jafar. She was his favorite wife. She was born in 1823. She was also a freedom fighter against Britishers. Zeenat Mahal married Bahadur Shah Jafar at Delhi on 19 November 1840.She greatly influenced the emperor and after the death of the crown prince Mirza Dara Bakht. She was suspected of poisoning the British resident in Delhi in 1853 for medding too much in palace affairs. During the Indian Rebellion of 1857 she kept son out of contact with rebels in an attempt to secure the throne for heir. With the British victory the emperors two other sons were shot for supporting rebels however her son did not become heir. 


In 1858 her husband was deposed by the British bringing the Moghul Empire to an end and she was exiled to Rangoon with her husband. After her husbands death in 1862 the British banned anyone from claiming the title of Emperor in an attempt to dissolve the monarchy.She died on 17 July 1886. She was buried in her husbands tomb in Pagoda. The site became known as Bahadur Shah Dargah. 


Rebellion of 1857 was a major uprising in India during 1857-58 against the rule of British East India company which functioned as a soverign power on behalf of the British crown. The great rebellion the revolt of 1857 the Indian insurrection and Indias first war of independence. The rebellion began on 10 May 1857 away from 40 miles north east of Delhi. The British East India company response came rabidly as well. The large princely states as well as smaller ones did not join the rebellion serving the British the words of Governor General Lord Canning. 



Even so the rebellion proved to be an important watershed in Indian and British Empire history. It led to the dissolution of the East India company. India was there after administered directly by the British government in the new British Raj. Begum Zeenat Mahal was last empress and India struggling behind the another rule. Bahadur Shah Jafar was the final ruler in Mughals. We all know about our freedom fighters and give our respect to them.
