Freedom fighters in our Indian history Avanti Bai is one of the lady freedom fighter against the British government. She was born on August 16-1831 in village Mankekani in Seoni district. She was an unknown freedom fighter. Veerangana Avanti Bao Lodhi is still giving inspiration for the creation,bravery,sacrifice and patriotism of nation as a heroin. In her childhood she had learned to do fensing and horse back riding. Father Jujhar Singh decided his daughter Avanti Bai as a prince of the Ramgarh pricely state of Lodhi Rajputs district Mandia. As unwell in the wake of her husband Vikramaditya she took the state work and introduced her ability and shook the British quarrels.At this time Lord Dalhousie was the Governor General of British Raj in India. When the British government realized the political situation in Ramgarh, Rani took suitable opportunity. Raja Vikramaditya Singh died in May 1857 due to discomfort the freedom struggle start in the country.
When the revolt of 1857 Rani Avanti Bai Lodhi raised an army of four thousand and led it herself. Her first battle with the British took place in the village village of Kheri near Mandia. Where she and her army were able to defeat British forces. However stung by the defeat the British came back with vengence and launched an attack on Ramgarh. Avanti Bai moved to the hills of Dhevarygarh for safely. The British army set fire to Devarygarh to attack the queen. Avanti Bai resorted to guerrilla warfare to fend of the British army. But her courage and fighting spirit was not enough to match their mighty military machine with all its brutal strength. Surrendered and faced with the prospect of defeat Rani Avanti Lodhi thought it better to sacrifice her life rather than to surrender. On March 1858 she killed her self with her own sword and became a martyr.
After Independence Avanti Bai was remembered through performances and folklore. She is often compared to the Rani Lakshmi Bai of Jhansi and Kittur Chennamma who waged a similar war against the British to defend her kingdom. India post issued a stamp of Rani Avanti Bai. Also Rani Avanti Bai Lodhi Sahar is a multipurpose project with a hydro electric power point.
