Rana Pratap Singh was a ruler of Mewar a region in north. He belonged to the Sisoda clan of Rajputs in popular Indian culture. He was born in Rajput family. He was born to Udai Singh and Jawante Bai. He was married Ajabde Punwar of Bijolia. Pratap Singh was crowned king in 1572. Mughals emperor demanded Pratap to obey rules But Pratap Singh Rana refused to all envoys. The war began with Mughals. The battle of Haldighati was on 18 June 1576 between Maharana Pratap and Akbars forces led by Man Singh of armer. In Haldighati war Pratap Singh with his 20000 troops fought Akbars huge army of 85000 soldiers. This war was an example of his bravery for the whole world.
Moghuls were victorious and inflicted significant casualities among the Mewaris but failed to captured Pratap who escaped. The site of the battle was a narrow mountain pass at Haldighati near Gogunda. They were able to capture whole Mewar. After this war as soon as empire focus shifted to North West. Pratap and his army came out of hiding and recaptured the western regions of his domination. Moghuls pressure on Mewar relaxed after 1579 following rebellions in Bengal and Bihar. In 1582 Pratap Singh attacked and occupied the Moghuls post of Dewair. In 1585 Akbar moved to Lahore and remained their for the next twelve years watching the situation in North East.
Taking advantage of this situation Pratap recovered Western Mewar including Kumbalgarh,Valipur and Gogunda. During this period he also built a new capital of Chavand. Pratap Singh died in 19 January 1597 at the age of 56. Rana Prataps method of sporadic warfare was later elaporated further by Chatrapati Shivaji. After Moghuls empire British East India company entered here and made their ruling for some years. Pratap Sing was the courage warrior in our Indian history and fought for the freedom of his country.
